Gerardo Francisco Saavedra Silva.

Gerardo Saavedra is admitted to practice law throughout Mexico. He obtained his law degree from Universidad Panamericana in Mexico City in 1986, and his Master of Laws degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1992. He attended a post-graduate specialization course at the Academy of American and International Law of the Southwestern Legal Foundation in Dallas, Tx. He is also admitted to practice as Corredor Público (Federal Notary Public for Commercial Matters) in Mexico City. Prior to joining Borda y Quintana, he was partner of Baker & McKenzie, S.C., at Mexico City. As corporate attorney Mr. Saavedra specializes in international business transactions, mergers and acquisitions, joint-ventures, projects, finance and security interests, foreign investment, aviation law, legal audits, negotiation and drafting of commercial agreements, domain names and corporate law in general. He has been featured as one of the World’s Leading Project Finance Lawyers by Euromoney’s Legal Media Group Expert Guides.

In the field of arbitration, Mr. Saavedra has acted as arbitrator in several arbitration proceedings, both domestic and international, as well as coordinated and advised litigators in arbitration proceedings. Mr. Saavedra is panel arbitrator of several institutions, such as the Arbitration Centre of Mexico, the Mexican Copyright Federal Bureau, the World Intellectual Property Organization, the Chicago International Dispute Resolution Association, The London Court of International Arbitration, and the Mexico City Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Saavedra has been recognized by the Mexican Supreme Court of Justice as expert in commercial arbitration in the corresponding Listing of Recognized Experts, and featured as one of the World’s Experts in Commercial Arbitration by Euromoney’s Legal Media Group Expert Guides.

Among others, Mr. Saavedra is member of the Mexican Bar Association, the Mexico City Association of Corredores Públicos, the International Bar Association, The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb.), and The London Court of International Arbitration. Further, Mr. Gerardo Saavedra currently serves as President (2004-2006 and 2006-2008) of the National Association of Corredores Publicos.

Mr. Saavedra has attended several seminars and conferences in Mexico and abroad, including presentations and speeches he has given on different subjects of law, including on Aircraft Financing in Latin America, Doing Business in Mexico, Security Interests Under Mexican Law, Environmental Legal Framework, Ad-hoc Commercial Arbitration Procedures under Mexican Law, Organization of the Procedure in Commercial Arbitration, etc. Mr. Gerardo Saavedra is totally fluent in both Spanish (native) and English.
